The two hour tour concentrates on a more in depth look at the lobster
fishing industry. Upon boarding the Chris L., we give you an introduction
on the features of the boat and safety procedures. The tour begins with
a brief look at the historic Lunenburg waterfront. While steaming seaward
the lobstermen stop to haul six lobster traps from the ocean floor, with
the catch of lobsters and other sea creatures such as starfish and crabs
being displayed in the onboard touch tank for all to examine. The lobstermen
give a comprehensive presentation on the different trap styles, lobster
life cycle, molting growth, survival and conservation. The lobster fishermen
offer insight into their heritage and lifestyle with impromptu fishing
stories. Lobstermen Tours is also in partnership with the scientific community
and the process of tagging the lobster for research purposes is demonstrated
and explained. After the hauling of the traps you can “spin a yarn” (talk)
with the crew as you steam towards an active seal colony on Eastern Points
Reef. The crew navigates a narrow passage between two scenic islands while
you take in the view that was once home to a dozen or so fishing families.
Enjoy the sights of the fishing village of Blue Rocks on the way back to
Lunenburg harbour, then prepare for photo opportunities of Battery Point
Lighthouse with the Historic Lunenburg waterfront in the background. Take
the chance to hold a live lobster as well, before they are released back
into the sea.
